The Organ
The
organ is a three-manual instrument installed in 1900, designed by Mr
J.T. Field and built by Messrs. A. Hunter and Son of Clapham, South
London. The organ was originally pneumatic (i.e. hand pumped) but
converted to electro-pneumatic in 1935. The original action has
otherwise been retained throughout with four double and one single
bellows. A concave and radiating pedal board was fitted in 1967
together with a balanced swell pedal.
The
organ is considered to be a fine example of it's type and age.
Extensive fundraising amounting to approximately £52,000
enabled a
thorough clean and overhaul to be completed in 2004. The work included
the replacement of leatherwork in the bellows and was undertaken by Jim
Molyneux of Stoke-on-Trent. A comprehensive list of the elements of the
organ including pipes, couplers and pistons can be found on the notice
board at the back of church.
